COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
CANDELABRA, CHAPEL
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to item 2 of MIL-C-43499.
1. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS.
1.1 Design and construction. The candelabra shall be fabricated of commercial brass. All exterior metal pieces used in the fabrication of the candelabra shall be chromium plated brass. The candelabra shall be 18 + 1 inches high from base to top center candleholder, with adjustable arms. The arms should measure 13 inches in length. The candelabra shall hold seven candles. The inside diameter of each candleholder shall be 7/8 + 1/16 inch. The base shall be 6 + 1 inches in diameter. The design of the candelabra may be specified by the procuring activity to ensure conformance with design of the candlesticks, altar and other items used on the altar.
2. QUALITY ASSURANCE.
2.1 Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics and requirements of this description and conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices, and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. When specific quality assurance provisions are specified for any commercial characteristics the contractor shall furnish data resulting from inspection conducted in accordance with the specified quality assurance provisions. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
3. PACKAGING.
3.1 Packaging. Each candelabra shall be disassembled to the extent determined by the supplier to protect parts susceptible to damage during shipment and storage and for the reduction of cubage. Disassembly shall be limited to those parts that can be removed and reinstalled without special skills and tools. Each component of the candelabra, or each candelabra shall be individually placed in a clear plastic bag. Two candelabra (one pair) shall be packaged in the most compact manner, in a snug-fitting fiberboard box. Cushioning shall be the most compact manner, in a snug-fitting fiberboard box. Cushioning shall be applied as necessary to immobilize the candelabra and fill voids in the box.
